Florida - A Novel

My first novel, Everybody Knows and Nobody Cares, was published by Knopf in 1971, to great reviews in the New York Times, the New York Times Book Review, Time, The New Yorker, and elsewhere. Pocket Books issued a paperback, and the producer of The Graduate optioned the novel for a Warner Brothers film, for which I wrote a screenplay, never produced.

Then I took a long time writing a second novel, lost my editor and agent to job change and death, and published Florida on my own, with XLibris, as Florida, using a pastel of a flamingo that I drew as a kid on the cover. Later, Syracuse University Press brought out a new edition of that novel under the title Towards Polaris.

Now, GrayBooks is about to publish a sequel, Far Alaska.

Another sequel is coming soon.

Readers of WoodenBoat Magazine will know that I’ve fairly often written for that magazine. In the Seventies and Eighties I wrote frequently for Sports Illustrated and Gray’s Sporting Journal.
